Developing your skills and potential

We may hire you for your specific skills or expertise, but it doesn’t end there. We know that everyone has hidden talents, so we make it our job to help you use them to get the most out of your role. We’ll also help you build on your abilities so that you can continue to expand your horizons and explore your potential.

Each Pearson business has a team dedicated to learning and development. These teams host a range of courses and activities to help you learn more about the wider business and about how you work, both as an individual and with others. We also have a central team who focus on developing leaders at every level in the business through a series of Masterclasses, the annual Forum and the Emerging Leaders Programme.

We believe that learning new skills and developing in your role can be so much more than simply taking a course. We recognise that you can learn just as much on the job with support from your line manager or with a mentor to challenge you to approach things differently. We facilitate a number of mentoring programmes around the world to connect people in different parts of the business. And we hold a range of internal seminars and workshops to bring colleagues together on subjects as diverse as marketing, digital opportunities and more. We like to bring people together on a regular basis, and have seen many great new ideas spring from face to face gatherings. We are increasingly turning to the greenest way of doing that – virtual meetings using our video conferencing facilities – but we do have several major events each year to enable staff from all over the company to work together in the same physical space.

We also encourage our people to take on short term assignments in different parts of the world through our NewDirections programme, which gives participants exposure to a different part of the company and new insight into our markets.
