Joint Classification

 Socket depth has a large impact on the stability of ball-and-socket joints. In fact, the main contributor to hip joint stability is the exceptionally deep socket of the joint. Joints that have shallow sockets, like the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint), are less stable and thus, easily dislocated. 

 The depth of the socket in a ball-and-socket joint does NOT usually affect joint stability.
