What happens if the kidneys of the donor and the recipient are not compatible? So let's recall what we know about organ transplants and what happens when the organ is not compatible with the host. So we know that when we're talking about organ transplants, the body uses the immune system to basically check to make sure if that organ that's being transplanted is compatible with the host. And it does this by checking the MHC one proteins on the new organ. And so we know that the MHC one proteins are cell surface proteins that display specific antigens. And so if those antigens are different than the one from the host, the organ would be not compatible with the host. And so in that case, we're trying to figure out what would happen if the kidneys of a donor and a recipient are not compatible, meaning it has different MHC one proteins. So, if the immune system detects different proteins and determines that the organ is not compatible, it will start to destroy the organ because it would reject it and then it would cause it to fail. So you'd have organ failure. And so that means that the body would reject the donated kidney as well as the donated kidney would fail because it is not compatible with the host.
