Hi everyone. Let's look at our next problem. It says homeostasis refers to the body's way of reaching and maintaining balance by regulating various physiological processes in cases where there is an excess of fluid waste or electrolytes in the body, the kidney gets rid of them. This is an example of and our answer choices are four different types of regulation. Osma regulation, thermoregulation, chemical regulation and physical regulation. Well, let's recall from our content video, there are three different types of homeostasis with three different ways of regulating them. And the first is temperature really important for your body to stay within a certain window of temperatures. So thermoregulation is your body's way of regulating the body's temperature. Osmo regulation is a second. Osma regulation maintains the correct amount of water and electrolytes inside and out of the cells. Um osmosis happening. Water flowing inside or out of a cell can cause a lot of different issues in the body that goes wrong. So water leakage outside of cells can cause all sorts of problems. Um cells swelling up to full other things like that. So important for your body to maintain homeostasis in terms of those water electrolyte balance is affecting how water moves in and out of cells. And then finally, chemical regulation. This uses hormones as chemical signals to adjust the concentration of different secretions such as insulin. So these are really complex systems, those hormones and the very lots of different, very complicated interactions they have in your body. So let's look at our answer choices now. Well, the first thing we notice is that physical regulation is just not one of the forms of regulation of homeostasis in the body. So we can eliminate choice D physical regulation right away. Well we know eliminating excess fluid waste or electrolytes is not regulation of temperature. So we're going to cross out thermal regulation. Now if we hadn't just gone over these types of regulation, osmo regulation versus chemical regulation might be a little bit confusing. Um But again if we think of the fact that we've got fluid and electrolytes and that involves you know the water flowing in and out trying to balance and equate uh concentrations. That's the process of osmosis. So that would hopefully lead us to choice a Osma regulation. And then if we remember that chemical regulation, if we remember chemical regulation associated with hormones that will help us remember that those are those much more complex processes in the body, having to do with hormones and all the various effects they have.
