Welcome back. I'm so glad you're here. Were given an expression I'll rewrite that bigger. We've got four times Y plus one times. Why squared plus two and were given a value for our y variable. Why equals eight. What does that mean? That means anywhere. We see why? Here's one here's another one. We're going to replace that Y with an eight. So let's go ahead and do that. We've got four times no longer. Why? But now eight plus one and then another parentheses instead of why squared there? It's now eight squared plus two. Now all we've got are regular old numbers so we can go ahead and we can use these pem does rules which you may recall from previous lessons. We're going to work from left to right and we're going to first do what's inside parentheses. Then work with exponents. Then we'll do multiplication and division from left to right and then addition and subtraction from left to right. So what's first parentheses? We've got two sets of parentheses here. So let's work left to right. What's happening in the first set of parentheses? That's eight plus one. Well eight plus one is nine. That first parentheses is done. And now we've got another set of parentheses and what's happening in there. Well we've got an exponents and we've got addition and exponents come first with our pandas. So eight squared. That's 64 then bring down that plus two. Okay. We've got four times nine times We've got one more parentheses with things happening inside of it with operations included. So 64-plus 2 is going to be 66. And now we have cleared our parentheses but there's still parentheses there. Well sometimes you're going to see parentheses that actually mean multiplication when you have numbers squished up like that Next to each other. That really means multiplication. So we could rewrite this four times nine times 66 and now we can just use the calculator to compute that and that will give us the answer of 2,376.
