hey everyone in this example, we need to show which of the following shows an arrangement of most acidic to least acidic oxide. So what we're going to recall to be able to answer this question is our trend sorry, our trend on our periodic table for metallic character. And we should recall that metallic character for an atom is going to increase as we go from right to the bottom left of our periodic tables. We also want to recall since we're dealing with atoms that are oxides that the more non metallic character the central atom has in the metallic or in the oxide for the central atom will correspond to a greater acidity for that oxide. So based on our trend on our periodic table, we can go ahead and confirm that metallic character is going to be inversely proportional to our acidity. So looking at our first oxide, we have rubidium. We would recognize that rubidium is a medal Because it's in group one a on our periodic table. And let's make this clear. So we said that rubidium is a medal And it's in group one a. So it has a low amount of non metallic character. Ultimately it has high metallic character based on the trend because it's over here on our periodic tables in period five rubidium. So we would actually probably list this lower on our ranking for lower acidity. Looking at our next atom, we have osmium, we want to recognize that osmium in our D. Block or transition metal section of our periodic table and therefore is going to be considered a transition metal. And so it has a low amount of non metallic character because it has high metallic character. And so as me um is also going to be listed low on our ranking for acidity. However it's further to the right of our periodic tables compared to rubidium. So so far we can say that osmium oxide is going to be more acidic than rubidium oxide. Due to the fact that based on our trend for metallic character as me um dioxide is going to have more or rather less metallic character because it's further to the right. So moving on to strontium oxide, we would recognize that strontium in our periodic tables Is located in Group two. A. And so it's going to be considered also a medal. However, It's further to the right in group two a. Or it's further to the right compared to rubidium which is in group one. A. and so strontium oxide is going to have less metallic character than rubidium oxide. Meaning that sean team oxide is going to be more aesthetic. So we can move on in our ranking here, we have gold three oxide where we recall that gold is also in our transition metal D. Block. Also in period six just like our Adam Osmium was. So it's going to have based on our trend for metallic character because gold is further to the right compared to osmium being in group one B. Of our transition metal D. Block which would be around here In the 6th period of our periodic table. It's going to have less metallic character than Osmium. And so gold Or Gold three oxide is going to be more acidic. And lastly we have bismuth trioxide. We recognize that bismuth on our periodic table Is located in Group five A. So it's furthest to the right and would have the least amount of metallic character based on our trend and therefore is also based on its position a medal. So right now we're going to begin our ranking with the atom that had the lowest metallic character. And we confirmed that that was our rubidium oxide Again because it was only in group one a. And so based on our trend it had the most metallic character. So this is going to be the least aesthetic and the most metallic. So the acidity of rubidium oxide was lower. And so we're going to move this over because we need to start off our ranking with the most acidic atom. So the acidity of rubidium oxide was lower than strontium oxide, which we recognize is only in group two. A. And so even though it has a high amount of metallic character, It's further to the right in our periodic tables being in group two a. And so it has more acidity than rubidium oxide and even greater in acidity than our strontium oxide is our as me in dioxide. Where after osmium dioxide, we agreed that we have greater metallic character and I'm just going to make this a bit smaller so we have greater metallic character within our gold three oxide. Because our goal three oxide also being in the D block just like osmium is further to the right being at atomic number 79 in group one B of our transition metal section D block of our periodic table. And so gold three oxide had more acidity than osmium dioxide. And so that would leave last to begin our ranking the compound where we have. I'm sorry, business three oxide, which again had the or is the most acidic due to the fact that it had the least metallic character. And so our final answer to complete this example is going to be our ranking here. That's being boxed in Where again, Bismuth three oxide is the most metallic atom with the least metallic or is the most acidic atom molecule with the least metallic character.
