welcome back everyone. Which arrangement shows the following compounds in order of ascending acid strength. So our first thing we want to do is recall that our formula for an acid is in general represented by our proton bonded to X. Where X. Is going to represent a more basic species. And so we would be comparing based on our answer choices are atoms of X, which would represent arsenic, selenium and bromine. And recall that on our periodic table. Those atoms are located in our p block of our periodic table, Where we have arsenic located by Group five a. of our periodic table And it lies across period four. So we would say that arsenic is around here, then we have selenium right next to arsenic. Then we have rooming next to selenium and these are the atoms that we will be focusing on. So the next thing we want to recall is that our acid strength is going to increase as our electro negativity increases. And recall that electro negativity increases as we go and I'll use a different color. So it's clear. So asset strength increases with increasing electro negativity and election negativity trend increases as we go towards the top right of our periodic table. And so if we know that or with these facts outlined, we can confirm that as far as electro negativity, we can rank the following ascending order. Where arsenic has the lowest election negativity compared to selenium, which is higher where bromine will have the highest election negativity out of all three because it's further to the right of the periodic table compared to the other two. And so we would confirm that for acid strength, we would follow the following ascending order where we have our A. S. H. three which is less acidic than H. Two S. E. Which is less acidic than HBR. And so we would confirm that choice E, which states that arsenic try hydride is the least acidic and then we have hydrogen cell inside in the middle where hydrogen or hydroponic acid is the most acidic compound and electro negativity will increase from arsenic to bromine.
