welcome back everyone in this example, we need to draw the bond line structure for the compound 23 dimethyl Penton OIC acid. So what our first step is is to draw our main carbon chain which will come from where we recognize, we have the ending Penton. Knowing specifically we want to focus on the Penton part. And so what we would recall is that Pent tells us we have five carbon chain. And because we have this specific ending A. N. Sorry, A. N. This tells us that we have an L. Kane because we have all sigma bonds connecting these five carbon atoms. And so this would give us as a whole pen tane. And so recall that drawing in our structure. Every corner represents a carbon atom. So we would have two carbon atoms here, a third carbon atom here, 1/4 carbon atom here and then our fifth carbon atom upward here. Now that we have our five carbon chain. We also want to recognize that we have a modifier to this root plantain, which is going to be this OIC ending here. So OIC we recognize as a root modifier and what a route modifier is is it tells us a group of high priority that is attached to our main carbon chain in this case, recognized that OIC refers to a car, box cilic acid group. So we want to recall what that looks like that is going to be where we have an R group which is our carbon chain bonded to a ketone. Recall that a ketone is a double bond with an oxygen atom and then bonded to this ketone. We have an O. H. Group which is our alcohol group. And as a whole this entire structure is our carb oxalic acid group, which we want to add to our our group here for our structure. And so drawing that in, we have this carbon bonded. Doubly to an oxygen where we now have a connection to a hydroxide and this would be our carb oxalic acid. Now we want to recognize that we're not done yet because we have this location designated as carbon two and carbon three where we have a dimethyl. And so this dime ethel would be our substitute prints where we have a total of two times R. Ch three methyl groups. And so what we're going to draw in is actually before we draw it in, we want to recognize that as we stated, carb oxalic acid is our high priority group, meaning we're going to number our carbons lowest according to the one attached to that high priority group, meaning this carbon here is carbon number one. This is carbon number two, carbon number three, carbon number four and carbon number five for our five carbon chain. And so now that we know that we can easily assign our locations of our methyl groups as we are given, we have two methyl groups from the die prefix and then were given their location a carbon two and carbon number three. And so for carbon number two, we're going to just draw in our methyl group. So we call that Ch three is just our carbon bonded to three hydrogen is here. So we have the hydrogen implied meaning we're not going to draw them in. But if we were to we would just have three hydrogen atoms here bonded to this carbon. But we're going to leave them as implied. This is our first methyl group and now we have our second methyl group at carbon number three. So we'll draw that in up here and this entire structure is going to be our bond line structure as our final answer for our compound 23 dimethyl Penton OIC acid.
