welcome back everyone in this example, we need to draw the bond line structure for the ether with the common name pentacle proposal ether. So what we should recall is what an ether is. And this is a type of group in an organic molecule where we have an oxygen atom bonded to two R groups recall that our groups are considered series of carbon chains. Where in those chains we have carbons bonded to hydrogen atoms. Now, how will we know what these carbon chains should look like? Well, if we look at the rest of the common name given, we see that we have pencil proposal and so recall that these two names here, pencil and proposal. Both have the ending ill meaning that these are both al kiel groups. So we'll say al kiel groups and what alcohol groups are is just another way of saying carbon chains meaning these are groups of carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms in a group. And so what we would also be able to recognize is that we have the prefix spent and then the prefix probe in front of the hell. Al kiel suffix ending. So we call that pent tells us we have five carbons in that carbon chain and probe tells us we have three carbons in that carbon chain. And so drawing everything together, we now know what our group should look like. So we'll start out with the longest continuous carbon chain which would be our pent group. It's longer because we see it has just five carbons recall that in our bond line structures. Each corner represents a carbon atom. So we would have a count of two carbon atoms here where we have one carbon atom here, the second here moving forward, we have a third carbon atom. We have 1/4 carbon atom and then drawing upward another line, we have our fifth carbon atom. And so now we can go ahead and add in our bond to oxygen, which would begin the first part of our ether. Where now we just need our second R group, which we know should be a proposal alcohol group with a three carbon chain. So we would have the count of one carbon here, Our second carbon here and our 3rd carbon here. And just to check everything, we have 123 carbons, this is our first our group and then we have 12345 carbons for our second R group. And so here we can see that this entire structure is our bond line structure of mental proposal ether. So I hope everything I reviewed was clear.
