Celebrating the most promising global edtech startups
Washington, D.C., October 28, 2013 – Pearson the world’s leading learning company, today joined 1776, an incubator platform based in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the most promising global startups in education.
Pearson, a corporate partner to 1776, will be the lead sponsor of the education category for the incubator’s Challenge Cup competition. As part of this partnership, Pearson employees will mentor and judge competing edtech startups in 16 cities around the world – eight in the United States and eight internationally. Winners from each pitch competition will convene in Washington, D.C., in May 2014 for a week-long festival and competition and the chance to become the winner of the Challenge Cup.

The main criteria for the education category is helping more people receive high-quality education opportunities while reducing costs. Judges will also evaluate whether the company has a level of traction demonstrated in market with a solution that’s scalable and better than anything offered by competitors.

Challenge Cup is a global competition to identify and celebrate the most promising startups tackling the biggest challenges. Startups with the potential for transformative solutions in areas of global importance will compete in regional competitions in 16 cities around the world from October 2013 through March 2014.
Challenge Cup will conclude with a festival in Washington, D.C. in May 2014 during which the finalists from the regional competitions will compete for the final Challenge Cup.
