Pearson and Omidyar Network to host Latin America Summit for cutting-edge education companies.

Application period is now open for upcoming event on September 14 in Bogota, Colombia

Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, in collaboration with the philanthropic investment firm Omidyar Network, announced its first Latin America Education Summit to take place on September 14-16 in Bogota, Colombia. The event aims to connect the best education companies from across the region, who are addressing some of the most significant challenges in their respective markets, and provide them with mentoring and access to leading investors.

Spearheaded by the Pearson Affordable Learning Fund (PALF), which invests in low-cost private schools and other affordable educational solutions, the Summit will invite ten companies to participate in a three-day intensive program that focuses on topics such as education industry trends, investment, and scaling across Latin America. The program will be delivered by diverse partner organizations, including Pearson and Omidyar.

Throughout the event, each company will have the opportunity to engage with experienced investors and mentors, as well as other leading education companies in the cohort. Entrepreneurs will leave the Summit with new tools and become an integral part of an education ecosystem of leading companies, mentors and investors in the region.

“Building on a successful startup mentoring program in two emerging markets, Southern Africa and India, this first Summit aims to strengthen the budding ecosystem of education entrepreneurs in Latin America,” said Katelyn Donnelly, Managing Director of the Pearson Affordable Learning Fund. “There’s a lot of innovative and impactful work being done in the region, and we look forward to once again collaborating with Omidyar to provide valuable tools and connections to the ten participating companies, helping them create their own culture of collaboration to achieve educational outcomes beyond their initial reach.”

Education companies throughout Latin America are encouraged to apply for one of ten openings; applications can be found here. To be eligible, companies should have a product in market with generated traction, revenue, and demonstrated learning outcomes, which looks to creatively solve a challenge in education, ranging from early childhood and K-12 schooling to online learning platforms and vocational training. Applications close mid July and selected companies will be announced publicly ahead of the event in September.
