Jon has been building assessments of all types for more than 35 years, with 26 of those years at Pearson. Jon is currently the senior vice president of psychometrics and testing services in the School Assessment group. He leads our assessment efforts in psychometrics, measurement research and assessment development, implementation, and defensibility.
Over his career, Jon has supervised almost all aspects of measurement and testing, including operations, scoring, technology, research, and publishing. He has been involved in the development of a wide range of assessments including:
- large-scale educational assessments
- formative assessment systems
- speech, language, and hearing assessments
- spoken English assessments
- personality assessments and intelligence measures
Often this leadership was both domestic to North America, but also globally in places like Abu Dhabi, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Currently, Jon is focused on the development, validity, and efficacy of learning systems that integrate measurement and instruction.
Jon has served as a member of various boards, committees, and service organizations, including The College Board Psychometric Panel, American Educational Research Association, National Council on Measurement in Education, Council of Chief State School Officers, The Association of Test Publishers, and the American Psychological Association. He is a member of the University of Iowa College of Education Advisory Board and sits on the Board of Directors for ACT Aspire LLC. Jon is also an honorary Oxford University (UK) research fellow.
Jon received his PhD in statistics, measurement & evaluation (psychometrics) from the University of Iowa in 1993.
