Primary Curriculum aligned New resources

Teaching and learning in 2022 looks very different to what we’ve been used to. Educators have made a heroic effort, adapting and innovating to continue to provide the support that young learners of today need.

As part of this shift, you may be looking for different types of resources to more effectively support your classroom adaptations and innovations, or planning changes to coincide with implementation of the new curriculum. At Pearson, it’s our goal to provide a suite of evidence-based resources to support you now and into the future.

New resources in 2022

To support your teaching now and with the new curriculum, Pearson Australia is expanding our existing range, adding new products and fully adapting others to suit the new curriculum:

New literacy resources

        • Toe by Toe
        • Jump Rope Decodable Readers
        • Sheena Cameron teacher resource books

Updated for the new curriculum

        • Mathology TEACH for F–6
        • Australian Signpost Maths
        • Australian Signpost Maths NSW

Scroll down to find out when each of these resources will be available and how they can support you. Plus, stay tuned for more resource releases throughout 2023.

New literacy resources

A synthetic phonics resource recommended by SPELD

Toe by Toe is a structured phonics-based reading manual that has already helped over half a million struggling readers to unlock their potential. Though suitable for all readers, Toe by Toe is particularly suited to readers with dyslexic difficulties and is recommended by SPELD.

The Toe by Toe teaching method is based on over 25 years of field research into reading difficulties, including dyslexia. Using a synthetic phonics approach, readers gradually build their decoding abilities using a unique and easy-to-use syllable division not generally seen in the teaching of reading.

When will it be available? The Toe by Toe reading manual will be available in September 2022 and will be supported by the release of two further workbooks, Stride Ahead and Stareway to Spelling, later in 2022.

A series to support synthetic phonics in the early years

Introducing Jump Rope Readers, a new series of high-quality decodable books for Grades K to 2 from series editors Lucy Calkins and Michael Rae-Grant.

Unable to find decodable readers that were instructive, comprehensible, representative and enticing to readers, the Lucy Calkins team decided to create a series themselves! Taking a synthetic phonics approach, the books start off simple and become increasingly complex, introducing new letter-sound correspondences and high-frequency words. But readers are also introduced to recurring characters and interesting stories, keeping them engaged and encouraging a love of reading.

The books follow a scope and sequence that aligns closely with most phonics programs, so anyone can bring these exciting new titles into their classroom.

Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum contains an increased focus on phonics and the use of decodable readers in a student’s reading development. The curriculum also emphasise the importance of authentic texts in F–2. The Jump Rope Readers bridge this divide as both decodable and engaging books for young readers.

When will it be available? The Jump Rope Readers will be available in late 2022.

Tried and tested teacher resource books

Sheena Cameron’s latest teacher resource books offer practical and engaging activities that have been tried and tested in the classroom to improve student reading comprehension, create engaging and functional learning environments and engage students to respond to a wide range of texts.

Sheena Cameron is an experienced primary, secondary and tertiary educator known for her pragmatic approach. Her latest professional teaching resources are based on extensive academic research and her life-long experience as an educator and highly regarded literacy expert.

All three resources are essential additions to your teacher toolkit. They align perfectly to latest needs and Australian Curriculum v9.0, which focuses more explicitly on comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning, drawing on vocabulary, context and text structures to expand topic knowledge and evaluate information and ideas. They also provide ideas to help students create and especially publish written, multimodal and oral texts and presentations.

When will it be available? Available now, the highly anticipated new editions of Teaching Reading Comprehension Strategies, The Publishing and Display Handbook and The Reading Activity Handbook feature new and updated content, new student examples, a user-friendly contemporary design and eBooks with a huge range of downloadable resources.
