Pearson plc, the international media company, has agreed the first of the planned disposals of a number of its reference and business & professional publishing operations.
Medical publisher, Appleton & Lange, is to be sold to The McGraw Hill Companies for $46m and Master Data Center, which provides payment services for the owners of intellectual property, to Information Holdings Inc. for $33 million.
Appleton & Lange publishes medical texts, periodicals, software and custom education products for the academic, clinical and consumer marketplace
Master Data Center provides payment services for the owners of intellectual property and sells software which facilitates the management of intellectual property assets.
Pearson announced on 25 January that it planned to sell a number of its reference and business & professional operations. Along with Appleton & Lange and Master Data Center, Pearson plans to sell Jossey-Bass, Macmillan General Reference, Macmillan Library Reference, Prentice Hall Direct and The Bureau of Business Practice.
