Penguin books won two awards on 17 November at the National Book Awards in the U.S., in the Young People’s Literature and the Poetry categories. The honours were announced at a dinner in New York.
Kathryn Erskine won the Young People Literature award for her book Mockingbird, about an 11-year-old girl with Asberger syndrome. Mockingbird is published by Philomel Books, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group.
Terrance Hayes won the Poetry award for Lighthead, published by Viking Penguin, which investigates how we construct experience, a work described as “fuelled by an imagination that enlightens, delights, and ignites.”
