Pearson Updates Nursing Textbook Issue
Pearson is taking promised steps to correct and replace copies of our Concepts in Nursing series following the discovery of inappropriate material in the text earlier this fall. We have removed that offensive material, undertaken a comprehensive review of the three volume series and have reprinted copies of Concepts in Nursing. This took some time but we are now able to offer a free replacement copy to students whose books contained the offensive content.
Students can visit our website for instructions. We are working as quickly as possible to get new hard copy books out to students who return their texts. Students returning books will be provided free access codes so they can use digital materials in the meantime. We have also updated and corrected all digital versions of Concepts in Nursing. Students can visit the same website for instructions about how to refresh their browser and check that their digital materials have updated.
We know we have more work to do and we are taking additional steps to ensure the quality of our materials. We are continuing with a long term review of our nursing portfolio, along with the rest of our higher education titles. Additionally, when this issue occurred, Pearson already was in the process of developing a new editorial policy to ensure we publish high-quality content and prevent errors or offensive content. We recently released this policy to our employees and will begin training in early 2018.
We are committed to providing all students with the best and most current material to prepare for their career. A key part of honoring this commitment is recognizing when our materials fall short of our high editorial standards, fixing the problem and then offering students the opportunity for new materials. We appreciate the patience of students and faculty as we worked to reprint this book and put a replacement process in place. We will continue to do our very best to restore your confidence in our nursing curriculum.
