Typical working conditions
- Logistics work at this level is challenging and can be stressful.
- Working hours vary and managers are often expected to work extra hours when required.
- You may be based in an office or warehouse. You may also be expected to travel.
Qualifications needed
Logistics managers usually have an honours degree.
Useful degree subjects are shipping and logistics, transport management, supply chain management, general business studies or management.
You could choose to do a joint honours degree, combining one of the logistics-related subjects with another relevant subject such as economics or business management.
Career path
Experienced and qualified logistics managers can gain promotion to senior positions within large organisations. You could eventually become a company director.
Alternatively, you might choose to specialise in one area of logistics such as international trade or supply chain management. It is also possible to set up your own logistics business.
Logistics provides many opportunities to work in other countries. If you would like to do this, foreign language skills will be useful.
