Most information (data) is stored and processed on computer databases. Information management involves looking after the data carefully and safely so it does not fall into the wrong hands.

The information is used to provide reports for organisations and their customers, such as banks, retailers, government, schools and charities. To manage an organisation's data, you not only need to be interested in IT but also need to know what the organisation does and how it works.

As more people are using internet data services, you could choose to work in the field of cloud data storage.

Things to consider

  • You will almost definitely work in an office.
  • If you are employed to work on databases, you may need to do this when it is not being used by other people. This may mean you need to work at night.
