Pearson Higher Education, the world's leading college publisher, and Blackboard, the leading e-Learning Intranet infrastructure company, announced today the commercial release of CourseCompass, a nationally-hosted Web-based platform specifically designed to meet the needs of Pearson Higher Education's customers.
CourseCompass ( http://www.coursecompass.com/ ) is the first e-Learning platform to enable educators to easily customize extensive content offerings from Pearson Higher Education and integrate them with their own materials. Educators can manage their courses from a personalized CourseCompass home page and easily upload important course documents'from simple MS Word documents to PowerPoint presentations--with no HTML experience.
The CourseCompass platform is launching with online content to support over 70 of Pearson Higher Education's leading textbooks. Plans are underway to support hundreds of additional titles in the coming months. Commenting on the release, Will Ethridge, President of Pearson Higher Education, said, "CourseCompass is foundational to our strategy of creating and supporting online product offerings that make it easier for professors to incorporate our online content into their courses.'
An extensive beta test program featuring online content supporting 14 Pearson Higher Education textbooks preceded the commercial release. Beta testers representing 12 different disciplines from 18 states were involved in the program. The beta reviews unanimously praised CourseCompass for its ease of use and accessibility to quality Pearson Higher Education content. Cindy Rouzer of Chabot College states, 'CourseCompass takes the best aspects of online course management and puts them all together in one place.'
Professor registration is a one-time process. The registration process generates a personal home page from which educators can create and manage their own courses incorporating Pearson Education's preloaded content ranging from eBooks to interactive modules and online test banks. Educators can preview and edit course content as often as they wish, and make the course available to students whenever they choose.
Because CourseCompass is nationally hosted, it frees instructors and institutions from the burden of system administration and maintenance. With comprehensive online help coupled with training and technical services from Pearson Higher Education, help is just a mouse click or a phone call away.
Commenting on the on-going partnership with Pearson Education, Matthew Pittinsky, Chairman and co-CEO of Blackboard Inc., said, 'We want to grow this system with a community of customers who are ready to embrace this powerful yet easy-to-use technology. As we expand Blackboard 5 and CourseCompass capabilities, we'll bring an even wider range of teaching and learning tools to the higher education community.'
