Index gauges the most inclusive workplaces for LGBTQ employees
WASHINGTON, DC – Today Pearson was awarded the top score on the 2017 Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for the fourth straight year. The CEI, now in it’s 15th year, is the most comprehensive benchmark on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees. The distinction recognizes Pearson as one of the nation’s most inclusive places to work--the only education company to receive a 100% score.
“Maintaining a workplace where everyone feels included is deeply embedded in our values—not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because it helps make Pearson stronger,” said John Fallon, CEO of Pearson. “I am pleased that we continue to have a culture and policies where every employee is treated with respect, dignity, and equality. And I’m proud of all of our Pearson colleagues who have helped us earn a perfect CEI score for the 4th year in a row.”
The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, with 517 achieving the top mark. The report evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
“Pearson’s commitment to cultivating a diverse and welcoming environment has allowed us to build a team of outstanding employees who serve learners from all backgrounds,” said Kendra Thomas, vice president of diversity and inclusion at Pearson. “I am excited that Pearson has been recognized for the 4th year in a row for creating a workplace that celebrates and rewards all of our employees for the work they do and their commitment to learners, not based on who they love or who they are.”
