Integration of DK Vision into Pearson Broadband presents exciting new entertaining & educational content opportunities
Pearson Broadband, the multimedia, broadband education division of Pearson plc, one of the world’s leading international media and education companies, today announced the integration of DK Vision into its business from publisher Dorling Kindersley.
DK Vision will become the television and video division of Pearson Broadband. The library of existing television programming, and portfolio of new productions will anchor Pearson Broadband’s televisual business.
Through a collaboration with Frederick Warne, DK Vision has brought Beatrix Potter’s timeless tales to life in “The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends”. Other children’s favourites in DK Vision’s collection include Mr Benn, King Rollo and the lovable Spot, all produced by King Rollo Films. Loveable characters developed by DK Vision include PB Bear and Dig & Dug. Fun educational programming is provided through the Eyewitness and Amazing Animals Series.
“We are extremely excited about this move,” said Simon Jollands, Director of DK Vision. “With the products that Pearson Broadband currently sells in the U.S. and the other international products it plans to launch, we can see extensive scope for use of our video content and characters to educate and entertain people in new and interesting ways”.
Jollands added “We have several new series and characters lined up and Pearson Broadband provides us with the business opportunities and experience to deliver these cost-effectively and profitably”.
DK Vision provides programmes to more than 80 countries worldwide, in more than 50 languages. The company’s approach to programme making has become internationally recognisable, blending distinctive visual design, compelling storytelling and universally appealing subject matter.
More recently DK Vision has co-produced Bill Wyman’s Blues Odyssey, the definitive history of the blues, hosted by ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman. This production will receive world distribution on DVD as well as TV coverage. The global TV premiere will take place in the U.S on Bravo on 1 November 2001.
“DK Vision expands our television effort in both quality and scope,” said John Hollar, President of Pearson Broadband. “It will support the development of many cross-platform television, publishing and on-demand learning programmes, and a range of new series and characters.”
Pearson Broadband and DK Vision can be seen together for the first time on their stand at MIPCOM, in Cannes, from 8-12 October 2001.
