A bucketful of books for Booktime
750,000 children across the UK will be receiving free books this school term thanks to Booktime, Pearson's community programme.
This year children will receive not one but two free books: Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School by Ian Whybrow and Adrian Reynolds and a special Booktime Book of Fantastic First Poems edited by June Crebbin, both published by Puffin. The books will be handed out by teachers in a special blue book bag, with a guidance leaflet for parents and carers on shared reading. Schools and libraries in England will also receive free tailored Booktime resource packs containing activity sheets, session ideas, stickers, bookmarks and badges to help them run Booktime activities. And Pearson people around the country are once again volunteering their time to read with children in local primary schools.
Now in it's third year, Booktime aims to encourage parents and carers to read aloud with their children and help foster a love of reading. Pearson is working with independent national charity Booktrust and the Department for Children, Schools and Families to reach children in around 20,000 schools.
