Pearson eCollege, National Academy Foundation partner to provide online teacher professional development

National Academy Foundation taps Pearson's platform to bring training and support online for teachers

Denver, CO, September 10, 2010 - Pearson eCollege today announced a partnership with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) to develop online professional development programs for teachers via the Pearson LearningStudio online learning platform.

“We are excited to partner with Pearson eCollege to enhance our professional development offerings for academy directors and teachers,” said JD Hoye, President of the National Academy Foundation. “We are always looking for ways to connect our teachers -- wherever they are -- to ongoing training and support. The eCollege platform can help us do just that.”

The National Academy Foundation is a national network of high school career academies predominately based in urban districts. Serving more than 50,000 students each year, NAF supports 500 academies in 40 states with rigorous career-themed curricula created with current industry and educational expertise through the Academy of Finance, the Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, and the Academy of Information Technology.

Due to the scale, diversity and range of NAF academies, there are many challenges to providing consistent and effective professional development to the educators responsible for implementing the NAF model. Using Pearson LearningStudio and its ClassLive Pro service -- a live, online learning environment with real-time, collaborative communications capabilities -- NAF will be enabled to deliver quality professional development to better support all the educators and administrators within its network.

“We are pleased to work with the National Academy Foundation to expand their teacher training efforts with an online program that will allow educators to collaborate with each other and participate in professional development anytime, anyplace,“ said Matt Leavy, CEO of Pearson eCollege.
