MyLab Statistics Efficacy Report

For an overview of MyLab Statistics and more information:
In the context of this study, conducted in partnership with Maastricht University School of Business and Economics with students enrolled in the first-year course, Quantitative Methods, in the Fall 2015 semester, Pearson is able to make the following relational (correlational, not predictive) statements about the efficacy of MyLab Statistics:
A 10% increase in the percentage of unique MyLab Statistics homework questions attempted is associated with a 2.3% increase in final exam scores.
A 10% increase in average MyLab Statistics homework score is associated with a 2.5% increase in final exam scores.
A 10% increase in average MyLab Statistics quiz score is associated with a 6.5% increase in final exam scores.
But what if students were already high achievers?
All of our efficacy statements reflect a relationship between MyLab Statistics and performance above and beyond students’ prior math ability and experience. That means, for the whole sample of students, researchers took into account students’ prior math education and their scores on a math pretest, and measured the contribution of MyLab Statistics on top of that.

Interactive learning
Concerned students were not using their textbooks, Sam Bazzi — math instructor at Henry Ford College, US — hoped to improve engagement using the Interactive Statistics in MyLab Statistics
“I’ve never had this many students stick with the online course...we bring to the students an experience that is...even more effective than the classroom...students persisted and felt they can learn independently.”

Transparent tutoring
MyLab Statistics provided the transparency Yolanda Manzano needed for her Elementary Statistics gateway course at Richland College, US.
“It was very organized, tells you how long until your next assignment is due and has my results and my progress all in the ‘course home’ tab, which helps you feel less stressed and more organized.”
— Elementary Statistics student, Richland College, US
