Win a collection of Readers stories - Competition Terms and Conditions

The competition

The title of the competition is the Win a collection of Readers stories.

The competition will be run and administered online via the Pearson English social media sitesand blog post; Facebook and Twitter (“the Site”).

How to enter
The competition will run from 1st April 2019 (the "Opening Date") to 5th April 2019 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.

All competition entries must be received by the Pearson team via the Pearson English blog, Facebook or Twitter by no later than midnight on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.


To enter the competition participants need to tell us which one of our readers they will be reading during the Easter holidays and why, on our Twitter or Facebook page using the hashtags #easter and #readers and tagging @PearsonEnglish before 5th April 2019. Make your entry as fun or moving as possible because the most original entry will win.

NOTE: When uploading the post any third party site like Twitter or Facebook , you are bound by that site’s terms and conditions. We have no control over the posts on the third party site and will not accept any liability regarding the post or the third party site.

IMPORTANT: By entering you confirm that you are over 18 years of age. No students or other persons may appear in the posts that you submit. Any entries featuring other individuals will be rejected.

The competition will be judged by a Pearson judge. Pearson reserve the right to conduct a pre-selection process by suitably qualified Pearson staff. The decision of the judge (acting reasonably) will be final.

Pearson will not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause. For example, because of equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. Please do not send proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition, as this is an online competition only.

By submitting a competition entry or nomination, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

Eligibility
The competition is open to any head, deputy head teacher, teaching assistant, or team in a school or a lecturer or team in an establishment currently teaching English as a foreign language (English language teacher) anywhere in the world (excluding the below list of Restricted Countries); from all schools whether state maintained or independent, except:

(a) employees of Pearson or its holding or subsidiary companies who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration;
(b) employees of agents or suppliers of Pearson or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or
(c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above or of the person they have nominated.
(d) any, nationals of, or persons located in the following Restricted Countries: Cuba, Iran, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea, South Sudan, Sudan and Syria 

There is a limit of one entry to the competition per person.

Pearson reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition or for any reason or no reason whatsoever. Any such decisions shall be at the sole discretion of Pearson. Competition entries cannot be returned.

The prize

  • Win a set of 8 popular Readers stories

Prizes are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prizes. The prizes are not negotiable or transferable.

Winner announcement
The winners of the competition will be announced on 10th April 2019 (Announcement Date).

The decision of the judges nominated by Pearson for the Pearson English favourite Readers stories is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered.

Pearson will contact the winners as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the social media address provided with the competition entry.

Claiming the prizes
If you are the winner of a prize, we will contact you by 15th April 2019 via Facebook or Twitter. You then have until 1st May 2019 to claim the prize by responding to the communication you receive from Pearson informing you that you have won. If you do not claim the prize by this date, your claim will become invalid. Your prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

Pearson will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winners. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize by 1st May 2019, Pearson reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

Pearson does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to claim your prize.

Limitation of liability
Insofar as is permitted by law, Pearson, its agents or distributors will not, in any circumstances, be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring because of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of Pearson, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights

All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to Pearson will become the property of Pearson on receipt and will not be returned.

By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree that:
(a) You have all the relevant rights and permissions to upload the entry and any accompanying material;
(b) You assign to Pearson all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and
(c) You waive all moral rights, in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents
Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

You agree that Pearson may, but is not required to, make your entry available on the Site and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant Pearson a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, reformat and sublicense the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.

Data protection and publicity
If you are the winner of the competition, you agree that Pearson may use your name, image and town or county of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.

You further agree to participate in any reasonable publicity required by Pearson.

By entering the competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with the competition entry may be held and used only by Pearson or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition.

General
If Pearson, at its sole and exclusive discretion, believes that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, Pearson may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

Pearson reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
