Climate change is something that children and young people are very aware of. Eco-anxiety – the psychological impact of the climate crisis and fear of the future – affects enormous numbers of children and young people.

In the last year, we have spent more time indoors and on screens than ever before. Unsurprisingly, this has had a big impact on mental health – especially on children and adolescents. Research has found that young people have been suffering from increased levels of anxiety, loneliness and frustration.

In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March and Women’s History Month during March, Pearson’s Women in Learning and Leadership team has created the following list of 50 inspiring women to include in Pearson’s content and to help prompt discussions in the classroom.

In January, Branksome Hall Asia were crowned International School of the Year at the 2021 International School Awards. We caught up with Dr Terry McAdams, Director of Technology, Research, and Innovation at the school to find out more about their award-winning school and the project that also earned them the Community Initiative Award this year.

11 February is International Women and Girls in Science Day – a day to show students just how exciting a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) can be. And it gives all of us the chance to encourage young girls to pursue a career in one or more of these subjects.

Alongside the many other events of 2020, we also released our new core English, Maths and Science courses for learners aged 11-14. Inspire English International, Maths Progress International and Exploring Science International are designed to support an age group we all too often overlook – and a school stage that some educationalists have called ‘the lost years’.

Wherever you are, and whatever type of international school you’re in, it’s a fact that all students have had their learning affected by the school closures brought about by the global pandemic this year. It’s also true that all teaching professionals want to identify gaps in learners’ skills and knowledge, yet identifying those gaps and deciding if they are important or not isn’t always straightforward.
