Pearson Education appoints Rubin Pfeffer Chief Creative Officer

Upper Saddle River, NJ. August 1, 2001 – Pearson Education has announced the appointment of Rubin Pfeffer to Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) for Pearson Education, effective immediately. Mr. Pfeffer will work closely with the creative teams of Pearson Education’s global companies to set consistent standards of excellence and to utilize best practices in product development for all of our publishing programs.

As CCO, Mr. Pfeffer will oversee design of major publishing programs and coordinate editorial plans among Pearson Education and other units of Pearson. He will also coordinate cross-company product development and will focus on leveraging Pearson and Penguin content for new print and online products and services.

Mr. Pfeffer brings vast experience from his 27-year tenure at Harcourt. He served in a variety of Trade and corporate positions, including Director of Children’s Books and President of Trade. During his years in management of HBJ Trade, the division received numerous awards, including National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, the Pen/Faulkner Award, the Caldecott Medal and honors, the Newbery Honor, The Coretta Scott King Award, and various recognitions of distinction such as four house authors receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Pfeffer also served as Corporate Art Director for HBJ, coordinating editorial and design efforts among divisions. A notable accomplishment was the Treasury of Literature Reading Program. The program was a milestone in publishing, joining Trade authors and illustrators with school publishers to create a successful reading program.

Most recently, Mr. Pfeffer was charged with a major corporate branding initiative, establishing a new division for the company to present the various business entities with a unified corporate brand.
