Landmark copyright agreement with Google

Publishers including Pearson Education and Penguin are part of a groundbreaking settlement agreement with Google that would expand online access to millions of in-copyright books in the U.S. The settlement, which is subject to court approval in New York, would resolve a lawsuit involving the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers.

The agreement promises to enhance the ability of authors and publishers to distribute their works in digital form through Google Book Search. The agreement acknowledges the rights and interests of copyright owners, while generating greater exposure for millions of in-copyright works, including hard-to-find out-of-print books.
