The Pearson Foundation and the Council of Chief State School Officers hosted an international education summit September 22-25 in Helsinki, Finland. The conference - "Teacher Quality: Identifying, Training and Supporting Great Teachers" - brought together delegates from the U.S. and many other countries and territories including Mexico, Britain, Singapore, Zimbabwe, Uruguay, Hong Kong and India, to explore ways to improve the quality of teaching.

The group heard from speakers including Henna Virkkunen, Finland's Minister of Education, whose country consistently ranks at the top of international test comparisons, and Andreas Schleicher, who talked about the recent education report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
