Integration expected to enrich students' online learning experience, save institutions time and money
Denver (PRWEB) November 5, 2009 --Pearson, a global leader in education, education technology, and services, today announced plans to integrate Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Student Administration Integration Pack (SAIP) with a variety of Pearson products, including the Pearson LearningStudio advanced online learning environment and Pearson's MyLabs and Mastering personalized learning solutions. The announcement was made at the 2009 EDUCAUSE annual meeting in Denver, one of the largest gatherings of education technology professionals in the world.
Pearson's planned integration with Oracle will improve the user experience for administrators, faculty, and students by automating the creation and management of users, enrollments, and courses from the PeopleSoft student information system into Pearson's products--independent of the learning management system used on campus. The integration will begin with Pearson's MyLabsPlus, the enhanced program level version of the powerful MyLabs tutorial and formative assessment products. Pearson's MyLabsPlus offers convenient administrator tools and dedicated support to allow departments to support their course and programs effectively and efficiently.
"Our MyLabs learning solutions have changed the way thousands of educators teach and millions of students learn around the world," said Jim Behnke, Chief Learning Officer of Pearson. "Our new relationship with Oracle is another game-changing event in education, offering users easy, one-click access between their student information system and the MyLabs. By not having to manage various unique systems integrations, administrators and educators will save valuable time so that they can focus on what they do best--educating students."
The Pearson integration to Oracle aligns with the IMS Global Learning Consortium's interoperability standards, which will save institutions time and money when connecting to other applications in the future.
"Like Pearson, Oracle believes that interoperability standards like the IMS Learning Information Services (LIS) specification enable institutions to reduce the cost of delivering instructional technology while opening new opportunities for innovation to support educators and learners. Oracle's use of LIS in Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Student Administration Integration Pack is proof that there is a way to reduce the hard and soft costs of integrating key administrative and learning applications while improving the ability to provision multiple systems in a controlled manner. Working together, Oracle and Pearson are extending the value of our solutions for our customers and the industry at large," said Curtiss Barnes, vice president, industry strategy, Oracle Higher Education.
Pearson's MyLabs and Mastering learning solutions have seen record demand from educators and students around the globe, with more than 6 million registrations this year alone. These innovative, course-specific online learning programs have proven to be highly effective at improving student performance and increasing retention rates. For example, at the University of Alabama, Pearson's MyMathLab has helped students achieve remarkable student performance gains of between 20 and 30 percent, while increasing retention rates greater than 10 percent. And, the university has achieved these results while producing a cost savings of 28% over traditional courses.
Pearson offers proven education solutions to help colleges and universities cost-effectively meet the demands of today's economic challenges in innovative ways, including customized content in print and digital formats, customized online courses, and instructional design services. Pearson offers choice and experience to help institutions of all sizes meet their goals for measurable student success and personalized learning.
