LGBT+ inclusion matters to us teachers
Bex Bothwell-O’Hearn, a history and politics teacher at a high school and sixth form, founded Suffolk DEI Network, with the purpose of diversifying the curriculum and supporting LGBT+ inclusion. Bex shares Pearson’s commitment to supporting LGBT+ inclusion all year round and is sharing their expert knowledge with Pearson, showing us the real value of championing diversity and inclusion as a teacher to impressionable students.

Laila El-Metoui (pronounced 'lila el-mehtwee’)
Pronouns: she/ her
Laila is a UK based Equity and Belonging Consultant at lemEducation.com. Listed 81 on the Top 100 Pride Power List 2021 and Stonewall Lesbian Role Model of the Year (2020), she founded and runs two bi-yearly global virtual conferences Educating Out Racism and Pride in Education. Laila also Founded and chairs Proud London Councils, the Pan London Forum for LGBT + staff network in local authorities and is on the Advisory Board of Intersex Equality Rights UK and a Patron of Let Voice be Heard.

Pride in Education
We were honoured to speak at the Pride in Education 2021. The conference is rapidly establishing itself as the one stop shop for practical tips and resources for everyone interested being more inclusive of diverse sexual orientation, gender identities and expressions in education.

As part of our sponsorship of Pride in Education, We commissioned a poem by LGBT+ Poet Laureate, Trudy Howson, to help promote the message that education can help encourage understanding and open minds.
We've also created a special filming of the poem that brings together students, teachers, practitioners, and representatives from the LGBTIQA+ community.
