We’ve given training to thousands of learners in defence and security up and down the country, working on long-term contracts with everyone from the UK government and wider armed forces to BAE and Babcock.

In 2015 alone, Pearson TQ delivered more than 150,000 training days to over 13,000 Ministry of Defence learners in the UK, cutting down training time by 10% and increasing pass rates to above 95% in one division.

Defence under pressure

To operate safely and effectively, the defence and security sector faces several key challenges:

  • Imminent budget cuts to the MoD will put more pressure on the armed forces to demonstrate cost-effective use of its resources. Existing staff will also be required to be proficient in wider skillsets gained through high-quality training and education, delivered to tight budgets.
  • Plans to expand the number of trained Army Reserves to 30,000 by 2019 will also mean a greater need for new recruits to develop vital skills and expertise to prevent them falling short of expectations.
  • New operational techniques involving military communications and IT networks make training in the latest skills essential for both public and private-sector organisations in the sector.

All these factors underline the need for training delivered by a dedicated strategic partner, at a cost that's in line with the pressures of the current economic situation.
