  • Pearson, Maryville to Launch National Ad Campaign Highlighting Online Degree Attainment

Nationwide TV and Radio Spots Will Promote Theme ‘Let’s Be Brave Together,’ Encourage Students to Start or Finish Degrees

ST. LOUIS – Today, Pearson and Maryville University announced the launch of the first national TV and radio advertising campaign for Maryville Online. The nationwide campaign will feature television and radio spots designed to encourage working adults to start a college degree online for the first time or finish an uncompleted degree.

In November, the university announced the addition of 10 new online degree programs, launching in the Fall of 2018, designed to make career-relevant education more accessible and flexible to students in all stages of life. Pearson is partnering with Maryville to provide the university with support for prospective student marketing and recruitment efforts, including the development of the ‘Let’s Be Brave Together’ campaign. In addition, Pearson will assist online students through their initial selection of a degree program, and then through graduation with retention, student support and help desk services.

The campaign specifically targets the 30 million 25 to 40-year-old working adults in the United States who have started a college degree, but not yet finished it, according to the "Some College, No Degree" report issued in 2014 by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. The ads celebrate Maryville’s legacy of improving access to education and show potential students that a career-advancing degree is within reach.

“Maryville prides itself on partnering with industry leaders to enhance student access and success,” said Mark Lombardi, president of Maryville University. “Our partnership with Pearson on the ad campaign, marketing and recruitment of online students enables us to focus on excellence in our course development and delivery. Together, we will better educate thousands of students who want and deserve a high-quality college education.”

“The decision to return to school as an adult is one of the bravest ones a student can make. We’re proud to be a part of people making progress in their lives through education,” said Kevin Capitani, president, Pearson North America. “I am certain when students learn about the quality and breadth of the new offerings at Maryville, they won’t hesitate to join us and ‘be brave together’ to begin or finish their degree.”

The ad campaign launched nationwide on January 1st, 2018.

  • Pearson, Barnes & Noble Education Partner to Bring Students Affordable, High-Quality Textbook Rentals

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pearson announced the latest in series of partnerships to expand its textbook rental program. Today’s announcement brings Pearson’s textbook rental program to Barnes & Noble Education’s (NYSE:BNED) 1,490 physical and virtual bookstores, serving more than 6 million students. Beginning this fall, the program will be piloted at Barnes & Noble College stores, enhancing their current industry leading rental program with these 49 popular Pearson titles. The titles will be available in print and digital versions via a “rental-only” model, which will provide students with affordable access to the selected titles. All titles under this program can be rented for under $100, with electronic versions of these titles being the lowest cost option. Pearson anticipates expanding the titles included in this program over time.

In January, Pearson announced a two-step plan to take on the issue of college affordability. The plan immediately reduced the prices of 2000 e-book titles by up to 50 percent when it was announced earlier this year. The second phase of the effort ensures that students can rent popular print titles online and in-store through trusted retailers. This rental-only model allows Pearson to reduce prices by up to 60 percent and ensure that all students have access to affordable textbooks. The Barnes & Noble College agreement represents the third-and largest-partnership in that program.

“Barnes & Noble College joining Pearson as a rental program partner marks the most significant step yet in fulfilling a promise to provide students with more choices and better prices on their course materials,” said Tim Bozik, president of global product at Pearson. “We are excited to work with one of the largest contract operators of college bookstores to bring these high-quality Pearson materials to the Barnes & Noble College stores and websites that so many students already turn to for their course materials.”

This program is part of Pearson’s ongoing commitment to making college more accessible and more affordable for students. In addition to the eBook price reduction and the print rental program, Pearson has introduced Revel--digital courseware that blends authors’ narrative, interactive media, and assessment, enabling students to read, practice, and study in one continuous experience--for less than the cost of a traditional textbook. Students can access Revel with their computer, tablet or mobile phone for as little as $65.

Pearson has also launched programs such as Digital Direct Access, which delivers digital course materials directly to students on the first day of class. Pearson is actively working with BNED to expand this program at its 1,490 campus and virtual bookstores. Digital Direct Access can save students up to 60 percent compared to the price of traditional print materials.

And, Pearson recently announced a partnership with IBM Watson to create virtual college tutors, making digital learning easier and more engaging.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pearson announced an expanded partnership with Chemeketa Community College, the second largest community college in Oregon, to provide students increased access to high-quality, digital course materials at significant cost savings. Chemeketa piloted its Course Materials Fee Program in Fall 2016. The pilot included more than 330 students enrolled in the Introduction to Business course, which leveraged Pearson’s MyBusinessLab™ digital learning technology.

Based on positive feedback from students and educators, Chemeketa has extended and expanded the program to include more than 2,000 students across 33 courses, utilizing additional MyLab™ and Revel™ digital learning technologies focused on mathematics, political science, management, marketing, and finance, as well as content from other providers.

Since 2016, more than 190 colleges and universities have partnered with Pearson to implement the Digital Direct Access model. Pearson’s DDA model enables institutions to deliver high-quality digital course materials, including eBooks, MyLab™ and Mastering™, and REVEL™, to students on or before the first day of class at a savings of up to 60 percent. Educators also gain valuable insights into students’ learning activity through data access, enabling them to continuously track and assess students’ progress.

“Lack of access to affordable course materials often resulted in students dropping their courses. Partnering with Pearson helps us to address this challenge by providing our students with affordable access to essential course materials they need to successfully complete their higher education goals,” said Meredith Schreiber, director, Bookstore and Auxiliary Services. Join Schreiber as one of the discussion leaders in a panel presentation on education content strategy at the 2017 WCET Leadership Summit on June 15 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at the Marriott Salt Lake City Center.

The Digital Direct Access model is part of Pearson’s ongoing commitment to making college more accessible and more affordable for students, through the use of effective immersive digital learning content and technologies that are designed to help educators increase engagement and produce measurable outcomes for learners.

In addition, Pearson recently announced a partnership with IBM Watson to create virtual college tutors, making digital learning easier and more engaging.

  • Duquesne University School of Nursing and Pearson Partner to Increase Access to Online Higher Education Opportunities in Nursing

Partnership addresses the growing national demand within the nursing profession

Pittsburgh, PA, and Washington, DC — The Duquesne University School of Nursing has forged a partnership with Pearson, the world’s learning company, to increase access to Duquesne’s rigorous online nursing degree programs. This partnership will help meet the growing national demand for highly qualified nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse executives, and nursing faculty. The partnership will focus specifically on the Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN-BSN completion, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. Pearson is providing comprehensive online program management services, including marketing, recruitment, student support, helpdesk support, and student retention services.

“Partnering with Pearson will enable Duquesne University to rapidly bolster our existing, nationally ranked nursing program and significantly expand the reach of our School of Nursing,” said Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean and professor of the Duquesne University School of Nursing. “In doing so, we’ll be well positioned to prepare a greater number of nurses to become expert clinicians and health care leaders dedicated to improving the overall quality of patient care in the rapidly changing profession of nursing.”

By 2020, the United States will have an estimated 1.6 million job openings for nurses. Despite this surge in demand, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a shortfall of 193,000 nursing professionals. The Institute of Medicine also issued a report in 2010 recommending that nurses should achieve higher levels of education to address an increasingly complex health care system.

“This initiative extends the remarkable record of breakthroughs in nursing education achieved by Duquesne University,” said Dr. Timothy Austin, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Duquesne. “Most significantly, it was our School of Nursing that created the first online Ph.D. in Nursing program in the nation. We anticipate that this new venture will lay the groundwork for rapid growth in online graduate programs in our other schools.”

Duquesne’s BSN program offers a path for registered nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Diploma in Nursing to take the next step in their career by earning a BSN degree. The MSN program is designed to meet the current and future needs of nurses by preparing them to plan, initiate, affect and evaluate change in the health care delivery system; ensure quality patient care; and improve health care outcomes. There are three areas of specialization available at the master’s and post-master’s certifications: family (individual across the lifespan) nurse practitioner, forensic nursing, and nursing education and faculty role.

The DNP degree enables graduates to transform the health care delivery system and design new systems to improve the context in which health care is offered. This doctorate is designed for nurses seeking a terminal degree in nursing practice and offers an alternative to research-focused doctoral programs, such as the Ph.D. which Duquesne also offers.

Duquesne’s School of Nursing is consistently ranked as one of the top schools in online nursing education by U.S. News and World Report. For more information regarding these online nursing programs, please visit the institution’s website.

“We are honored to collaborate with Duquesne University to build on the institution’s proven success by providing expanded access to nursing degree programs that are designed to produce more qualified professionals in the critically important health care field,” said Todd Hitchcock, senior vice president of online learning services at Pearson.

Pearson provides comprehensive online program management (OPM) services, and partners with more than 40 higher education institutions across the country and around the globe to implement and sustain over 250 undergraduate and graduate programs, which have produced more than 30,000 graduates. In 2016, a total of 6,893 students graduated from programs powered by Pearson’s student support and retention services, a component of many OPM partner solutions.

    About Duquesne University

Founded in 1878, Duquesne is consistently ranked among the nation’s top Catholic universities for its award-winning faculty and tradition of academic excellence. • Pearson Revel Mobile App Brings Course Materials to Tablets and Mobile Phones, Enhances Student Experience as Spring Semester Begins

Students Invited to Take Advantage of Revel in a Format that Fits Their Lifestyle

New York, NY -- As students begin Spring studies, Pearson is encouraging users of Revel to enhance their courseware experience with the Revel™ Mobile app which provides access to course materials, including their full text, on their tablet or mobile phone, offline and online. Students’ progress automatically syncs across all devices including laptop or desktop computer, which allows them to learn as they move throughout their day — on the train, on the bus, or whenever they have a moment. Launched in August 2016, the mobile app has been downloaded more than 55,000 times to date, with users spending more than 15 minutes in the app per session, using iOS and Android devices. Many Revel titles are priced as low as $65.

The student experience with the new mobile app includes:

-Offline Access — The Revel app lets students download their course materials to their devices, so they can read, practice, and study even when they’re offline.

-Assignment Reminders and Notifications — Students decide when and how often they want to receive assignment notifications to best fit their schedule.

-Access to Audio — Should learners need to review a chapter from their text during a commute, full audio of their text (available for most courses) lets them listen and learn as they go.

-Quizzes — The Revel app enables learners to complete their assigned quizzes on their mobile device to check their understanding and prepare for class whenever they have a moment.

-Highlighting and Note-taking Tools — The Revel app lets students highlight key passages and take notes, so they can study based on their preference.

“The app has a convenience factor that is so valuable to students, now more than ever before. In addition to being a full-time student, I work multiple jobs. This app allowed me to read and get assignments done on-the-go, maximizing the little free time I have,” said Alexandria Pipitone, a student at Florida International University.

“Revel is designed to provide today’s college and university students with the core content, learning aids and time management tools they need for the course — all in one continuous, integrated learning environment. Revel now meets students when and where they learn — in a fully mobile application, and we continue to make enhancements to the product based upon instructor and student feedback. With the new Revel app, students can learn anywhere, anytime and on any device, while keeping track of their progress across all devices,” said Paul Corey, managing director for higher education courseware, Pearson.

Revel is an interactive learning environment that seamlessly blends authors’ narrative, media, and assessment, enabling students to read, practice, and study in one continuous experience. The digital learning solution is designed to measurably boost students’ understanding, retention, and preparedness across an expanding range of disciplines. Released in 2014, Revel has been used by more than 400,000 learners across 200 courses and 15 subjects such as history, psychology, sociology, computer science, and more. Educators at over 1,500 higher education institutions nationwide are using the innovative digital solution to improve teaching and learning.

Combining Pearson’s online learning technology and content with iCare’s cutting-edge electronic health record system, students get the opportunity to develop and hone skills in an authentic EHR. Featuring activities that serve as a springboard to working with an EHR such as iCare, RealEHRPrep starts with simple scavenger-hunt type exercises and progresses to the documentation of complex cases and simulations. Pre-created case scenarios with corresponding medical records prepare students to observe, synthesize and analyze data in a clinical setting.

“This partnership between Pearson and iCare creates the best possible environment to prepare nursing students for success in the workforce and increase their employability. The modern technology of the iCare EHR coupled with its proven clinical workflows will expose students to the complex requirements they will encounter in actual clinical settings,” said Jim Riley, CEO of iCare. “Most important, students who train using RealEHRPrep with iCare will be ready for the future of healthcare.”

The Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health Act accelerated automation in healthcare. Nursing graduates need to know how to interact with EHR systems to ensure patient safety and quality care. RealEHRPrep with iCare’s solution meets the needs of core nursing courses – fundamentals, medical-surgical, pharmacology, maternal-newborn, pediatrics, mental health – as well as the skills lab, simulation lab and clinical.

“Today’s nursing students are under pressure to be ready for practice once they graduate and pass the licensure exam. Clinical time, however, is not always available, which means that offering realistic learning experiences in the lab and classroom are more important than ever,” said Julie Levin Alexander, vice president of Health Sciences, Higher Education, Pearson. “Pearson’s collaboration with iCare is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the educational experience for professors and their students who will be tomorrow’s nurses.”
