    close to surface of body

    further from origin of structure

    nearer to origin of structure

  • Frontal (coronal)


    divides body into front and back positions

    divides body into right or left portions

  • Mid-sagittal


    divides body into vertically left and right portions

    divides body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) portions
