Left common carotid artery
A major artery branching from the aortic arch that supplies blood to the head and neck.
Brachiocephalic trunk
The first major branch of the aortic arch that divides into the right subclavian and right common carotid arteries.
Left subclavian artery
An artery branching from the aortic arch that supplies blood to the left arm.
Superior vena cava
A large vein that returns deoxygenated blood from the upper body to the right atrium.
Aortic arch
The curved portion of the aorta that gives rise to major arteries supplying the head, neck, and arms.
Ligamentum arteriosum
A fibrous remnant of the fetal ductus arteriosus connecting the pulmonary trunk to the aortic arch.
Right pulmonary artery
Carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the right lung.
Left pulmonary artery
Carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the left lung.
Ascending aorta
The initial section of the aorta rising from the left ventricle, supplying oxygenated blood to the body.
Pulmonary trunk
The vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the pulmonary arteries.
Right pulmonary veins
Veins that return oxygenated blood from the right lung to the left atrium.
Left pulmonary veins
Veins that return oxygenated blood from the left lung to the left atrium.
Auricle of left atrium
A small, ear-shaped muscular pouch on the left atrium that increases its capacity.
Left coronary artery
An artery running in the coronary sulcus that supplies blood to the left side of the heart.
Right coronary artery
An artery running in the coronary sulcus that supplies blood to the right side of the heart.
Anterior cardiac vein
Veins that drain the anterior surface of the right ventricle directly into the right atrium.
Left ventricle
The heart chamber that pumps oxygenated blood into the ascending aorta.
Right ventricle
The heart chamber that pumps deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary trunk.
Right marginal artery
A branch of the right coronary artery supplying the lateral right side of the heart.
Great cardiac vein
A large vein running alongside the anterior interventricular artery, draining blood from the heart muscle.
Anterior interventricular artery
Also called the left anterior descending artery; runs in the anterior interventricular sulcus supplying the front of the heart.
Small cardiac vein
A vein that drains the right atrium and right ventricle into the coronary sinus.
Inferior vena cava
A large vein that returns deoxygenated blood from the lower body to the right atrium.
Apex of the heart
The pointed tip of the left ventricle directed downward, forward, and to the left.
