  • what is the function and histology of the ureters

the ureters contain urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder through peristaltic waves and gravity.

contain 3 layers: mucosa (transitional epithelium) muscularis ( inner longitudinal layer and outer circulatory layer) and adventitia (CT)

  • the function and histology of the bladder? what differs between the 2 sexes? what is the triangular portion of the bladder?

    • the bladder is a collapsible muscular sac that stores and expels urine. in males it is anterior to the rectum. in females it is anterior to the rectum AND the uterus/vagina.

the trigone is a smooth triangular region on the interior of the bladder where the openings of the ureters and urethra are. channels urine into the urethra

the bladder is made up of mucosa ( transitional ET) a thick muscular layer ( detrusor muscle) and adventitia

  • what is the function and histology of the urethra? differences between guys and girls?

urethra is a thin walled tube that drains urine from bladder and out body. has transitional ET near the proximal end. males it has stratified and pseudostratified columnar in mid urethra. it has stratified squamous ET at the distal end.

  • continue urethra

in males there are 3 named regions: the prostatic urethra, intermediate part of the urethra and spongy

    (penile) urethra

there are 2 sphincters: internal urethral sphincter is a involuntary smooth muscle

external urethra sphincter voluntarily inhabits urination and relaxes when one pees

  • what is micturition

its the act of emptying the bladder and is also called voiding or urination. contraction of the detrusor muscle empties the bladder
