Understand the role of the pulmonary circuit in the circulatory system. It is one of the two main circuits, the other being the systemic circuit.
Recognize that the pulmonary circuit is responsible for transporting blood between the heart and the lungs.
Identify that the primary function of the pulmonary circuit is to carry deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
In the lungs, gas exchange occurs where carbon dioxide is released from the blood and oxygen is absorbed.
Finally, the oxygenated blood is returned to the left side of the heart, ready to be pumped into the systemic circulation.
