Understand that spermatogenesis is the process of sperm cell development, which occurs in the male gonads (testes).
Recognize that a primary spermatocyte is a diploid cell, meaning it contains two sets of chromosomes (2n).
During meiosis, a primary spermatocyte undergoes two rounds of cell division: meiosis I and meiosis II.
In meiosis I, the primary spermatocyte divides to form two secondary spermatocytes, each of which is haploid (n), containing one set of chromosomes.
In meiosis II, each secondary spermatocyte divides again, resulting in a total of four haploid spermatids, which will mature into sperm cells.
