Understand that mitosis is a process of cell division that results in two genetically identical daughter cells from a single parent cell.
Recall that human cells are diploid, meaning they have two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. In humans, this means 46 chromosomes in total.
During mitosis, the chromosomes are duplicated, but the number of chromosomes in each daughter cell remains the same as the parent cell.
After mitosis, each daughter cell will have the same number of chromosomes as the original parent cell, which is 46 chromosomes.
Therefore, the number of chromosomes present in each human cell after mitosis is 46, maintaining the diploid number.
