Understand that meiosis is a type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, resulting in the production of gametes or spores.
Recall that meiosis consists of two consecutive divisions: meiosis I and meiosis II.
In meiosis I, homologous chromosomes are separated, resulting in two haploid cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the original cell.
In meiosis II, the sister chromatids are separated, similar to mitosis, resulting in four haploid daughter cells.
Conclude that meiosis produces four haploid daughter cells, each genetically distinct from the parent cell and from each other.
