Understand that ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is a molecule used by cells to store and transfer energy.
Break down the structure of ATP into its three main components: a nitrogenous base, a sugar, and phosphate groups.
Identify the nitrogenous base in ATP as adenine, which is a purine base.
Recognize the sugar in ATP as ribose, a five-carbon sugar that forms part of the backbone of the molecule.
Note that ATP contains three phosphate groups attached in a chain, which are key to its role in energy transfer within cells.
