Understand that human somatic cells are diploid (2n), meaning they contain 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs.
Recognize that meiosis is the process by which diploid cells produce haploid gametes (sperm or egg cells), reducing the chromosome number by half.
Recall that after meiosis is complete, each gamete contains one set of chromosomes, which is haploid (n).
Since the diploid number is 46, the haploid number will be half of that, so calculate \(\frac{46}{2}\).
Conclude that a mature sperm cell contains 23 chromosomes after meiosis is complete.
