Understand that the core knowledge approach in developmental psychology suggests that infants are born with certain innate knowledge systems.
Recognize that these innate systems provide infants with foundational understanding to help them interpret and learn about the world around them.
Contrast this with other views, such as the idea that cognitive development depends entirely on language acquisition or sensory experiences alone.
Note that the core knowledge approach emphasizes inborn cognitive abilities rather than learning everything from scratch after birth.
Summarize that the main idea is infants have built-in cognitive tools that guide their early learning and development.
