So we're going to begin with option a where we have sodium chloride. We're told that it's an ionic bond between these two atoms and we want to analyze each atom. So we begin with sodium, which we recognize is in group one a. On our periodic table and based on its position is going to be considered a medal. It's bonded with Chlorine, which we would recognize in group seven a. Are halogen group on the periodic table, meaning that chlorine is considered a non metal. And based on this pairing of metal and nonmetal, we would agree that this is going to be an ionic compound with an ionic bond between these two atoms. Moving on, we have in choice B. Our molecule of water. And sorry, we would rule out choice A. So in choice B we have water where we have hydrogen based on its position in group one A. It's the only exception being a nonmetal and it's bonded to oxygen where we would recognize oxygen Group six A of our periodic table, meaning oxygen is also a nonmetal because we have the pairing of two non metals. We would consider that this is going to be a covalin or molecular compound. And as far as polarity, we would recognize that oxygen being all the way on the far right in Group six A.
