  • Superior vs. Inferior

Superior means above or toward the head, while Inferior means below or toward the feet.

  • Anterior vs. Posterior

Anterior refers to the front, and Posterior refers to the back of the body.

  • Medial vs. Lateral

Medial means toward the midline, and Lateral means away from the midline.

  • Proximal vs. Distal

Proximal is closer to the attachment or origin, while Distal is farther from it.

  • Superficial vs. Deep

Superficial means closer to the surface, and Deep means farther from the surface.

  • Solute vs. Solvent

Solute is what gets dissolved, and Solvent is what does the dissolving.

  • Diffusion vs. Active Transport

Diffusion moves substances down their gradient without energy, while Active transport uses energy to establish or maintain gradients.

  • Transcription vs. Translation

Transcription is DNA to RNA, and Translation is RNA to protein.

  • mRNA vs. rRNA vs. tRNA

mRNA carries instructions, rRNA is a ribosome component/helper, and tRNA carries amino acids.

  • Epithelial vs. Connective vs. Muscle vs. Nervous Tissue

    Epithelial: boundary, protection, exchange
    Connective: support, connection, storage, transport
    Muscle: movement
    Nervous: communication, control
