Step 1 of the scientific method
Observation: objectively taking notice of something happening.
this is the start of a scientific experiment or inquiry.
Step two of the scientific method
Question: A developed question based on your observation, formatted in a way that is answerable.
Step 3 of the scientific method
Hypothesis: clear, strong statement that explains the observation or question and can be proven wrong with evidence. "The why?"
Step 4 of the scientific method
Prediction: A specific statement describing how and why the experiment will provide evidence regarding the hypothesis-question-observation. "if"... "then" format.
Step 5 of the scientific method
Experiment/Test: A controlled, repeatable procedure used to collect evidence that supports or refutes a hypothesis.
Step 6 of the scientific method
Results/Data Collection: Organize and interpret the data collected during the experiment to determine whether the results support or refute your hypothesis.
Step 7 of the scientific method
Conclusion: A statement based on the experimental results that explains whether the evidence supports or refutes the hypothesis. It should use the data collected to answer the original prediction-question-observation.
Aerobic metabolism equation
\(sugar+O2\rightarrow H2O+CO2+energy\)
fermentation (anerobic metabolism) equation
\(sugar\rightarrow ethanol+CO2+energy\)
Independent variable
What you change in an experiment.
Dependent variable
what happens or changes, based on the change of independent variable.
Standard variable
Common factors though out the experiment. volume, time, temp etc.
Positive control
Confirms that the experiment can produce or detect an expected effect
Negative control
Confirms that an effect does not occur when it shouldn't.

what refers to how basic a solution is
Alkalinity
acidic
reference to how acidic a solution is
buffer
mixture of molecules that either donates h+ to a base or accepts h+ to of an acid balance ph levels.
buffer experiment step 1
put 50ml of water in to a 100ml beaker
buffer experiment step 2
rinse ph probe tip and measure the ph level, wait to for ph to stabilize.
buffer experiment step 3
jot down the ph level of water under initial ph level
buffer experiment step 4
add 5 drops of lime juice(acid) to the water and measure ph level
buffer experiment step 5
jot down ph level of lime water under final ph level
buffer experiment step 6
calculate change in percentage of ph between water and lime water.
initial ph minus final ph = change in ph
change in ph /initial ph = change in percentage
buffer experiment step 7
repeat steps 1-7 with a buffer such as soda water
