Understand the process of meiosis, which consists of two consecutive divisions: Meiosis I and Meiosis II. Each division has four phases: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.
Recall that during Metaphase I, homologous chromosomes (pairs of sister chromatids) line up at the equatorial plane, not individual sister chromatids.
In Anaphase I, homologous chromosomes are separated, but sister chromatids remain together.
During Metaphase II, individual sister chromatids line up at the equator of the cell. This is similar to metaphase in mitosis.
In Anaphase II, sister chromatids are finally separated and pulled towards opposite poles of the cell.
