Anatomy & Physiology II: Course Overview

Course Description

Anatomy and Physiology II is a continuation of Anatomy and Physiology I, focusing on the study of major human physiological systems. The course emphasizes the cardiovascular, endocrine, urinary, immune, lymphatic, digestive, and reproductive systems. Students will learn through lectures, hands-on dissections, and laboratory exercises, including the examination of various organs and tissues.

  • Cardiovascular System: Structure, function, and pathology.

  • Endocrine System: Glands and hormone functions.

  • Urinary System: Anatomy and common dysfunctions.

  • Immune & Lymphatic Systems: Defense mechanisms and cell types.

  • Digestive System: Organs and processes of digestion.

  • Reproductive System: Male and female anatomy and physiology.

Student Learning Outcomes/Objectives

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  • Understand the composition, function, and importance of the cardiovascular system through lectures and hands-on dissections.

  • Explain the different types of glands and their functions in the human body.

  • Discuss the components of the immune system and the different types of responses.

  • Describe the function of the urinary system and the effects of pathological conditions.

  • Experiment with different specimens and lab models of the major organs and human systems.

Incomplete Grades

  • Given only for serious, unexpected reasons (e.g., illness).

  • Arrangements must be made with the instructor before the final exam.

Additional Info

  • Office hours are by appointment.

  • Course includes hands-on laboratory dissections and microscopy.

  • Students are expected to use the HCCC library database for research assignments.
