Course Overview

Course Title: Human Anatomy & Physiology I Lecture (BSC-2085-18202) Semester: Summer 2026 Instructor: Bita Ansari, DPM, MPH Delivery: Online Textbook: Human Anatomy and Physiology, 12th Edition by Katja Hoehn, Lawrence Haynes, Matthew Abbott (ISBN-13: 9780138242732)

Course Description

This course is the first part of a two-semester sequence examining human anatomy and physiology through a systems approach. Emphasis is placed on the interaction between form and function, from the microscopic components of cells and tissues to the organismal level. Key systems covered include histology, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Identify cell structures and describe their functions.

  • Distinguish tissues by structure, location, and normal physiology.

  • Demonstrate understanding of anatomical structure, organization, body cavities, planes, and directional terms.

  • Identify and describe structures of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

  • Interpret the functions of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

  • Explain how the components of the human body maintain homeostasis.

  • Analyze and interpret physiological data.
