Thoracic Cavity: Organization and Contents
The thoracic cavity is a central compartment of the ventral body cavity, protected by the rib cage and separated from the abdominal cavity by the diaphragm. It contains several critical organs and structures involved in respiration and circulation.
Pericardial Cavity: The space surrounding the heart, filled with pericardial fluid to reduce friction during heartbeats.
Aortic Arch: The curved portion of the aorta, distributing blood from the heart to the body.
Superior Vena Cava: A large vein returning deoxygenated blood from the upper body to the heart.
Trachea: The windpipe, conducting air to the lungs.
